EPA RECOGNIZES DREAMSCAPE MULTIMEDIA FOR
"GREEN" POWER PURCHASE
Company becomes EPA Green Power Partner
Lansing, Michigan - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized Dreamscape Multimedia as an EPA Green Power Partner for its purchase of green power. The marketing and web design company has purchased 12,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) of green power, representing nearly 68 percent of the company's annual electrical usage. Dreamscape is purchasing primarily wind Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) exclusively from Sterling Planet, one of the leading U.S. retail providers of green
power.
By purchasing green power, Dreamscape also qualifies for EPA's Green Power Partnership, a voluntary program that encourages organizations to purchase green power as a way to reduce the environmental impacts associated with conventional electricity use.
"We are excited to be purchasing green power and to receive recognition by the EPA," said Matt Schoenherr, Dreamscape Multimedia president. "We have always seen ourselves as business activists, but now we have found a way to be environmental activists at the same time."
"Green power" is defined as electricity that is partially or entirely generated from environmentally preferable resources, such as solar, wind, geothermal, biogas, biomass and low-impact hydro resources. Renewable energy sources are cleaner than conventional sources of electricity that produce carbon dioxide emissions, a greenhouse gas linked to global climate change. Green power purchases (such as when buying RECs) help support the development of new renewable energy capacity nationwide.
As part of its efforts to support green power, Dreamscape Multimedia is also offering its web hosting clients an opportunity to purchase green power. For an additional $5 a month, web hosting clients can upgrade their standard web hosting accounts to support the development of green power resources. Dreamscape Multimedia will purchase an equivalent value in wind power by buying renewable energy certificates (RECs) from Sterling Planet, the leading U.S. retail provider of clean renewable energy.
"Now, not only do we make the investment in renewable energy ourselves, but we're able to make it extremely easy for our clients to join us in protecting the environment," said Matt Schoenherr, Dreamscape Multimedia president. "With as little as five extra dollars each month, our hosting clients can make an annual contribution equivalent to recycling a full ton of waste. This would also be equal to avoiding the CO2 emissions of a single automobile for an entire year. Why would you not do this?"
"Offering RECs to our customers is a subtle way for us to bring environmental awareness to our clients. We are thrilled to offer the example, illustrating how environmental protection can be easily woven into the fabric of your day-to-day operations," Schoenherr said.
Web hosting is an Internet service that allows individuals and organizations to make their websites accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosting companies provide the hosting environment, storage, Internet connectivity, security, redundancy and support necessary to present a website to the public.
